The obverse features a central circular inset containing the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, encircled by the legend ELIZABETH II 2.5 DOLLARS COOK ISLANDS 2021. Below this inset is a detailed relief depicting the multi-masted sailing ship, HMS Bounty. The top of the bar features a dark rectangular field with the struck text 50g COIN FINE SILVER .9999. The base of the bar contains a further dark rectangular field with a small profile portrait and the printed text B.H. MAYER'S KUNSTPRÄGEANSTALT.
