Rear Admiral Rectanus Signed FDC Photo Desk Plaque Lot
USN Navy Rear Admiral Earl F. Rectanus Signed 1945 Postmark First Day Cover (FDC), 8 x 10 inches Unsigned Photo and Desk / Pen / Planes Presentation Plaque and a short biography Lot. The presentation desk set is inscribed 'Rear Admiral Earl F. Rectanus Director Naval Intelligence. NOTE: one pen is missing from the Presentation Desk Set. Vice Admiral Rectanus served his country throughout his lengthy career beginning in the Second World War in the Pacific on a mine sweeper which he came to command. During his early years in the Navy, he earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Maryland and a Masters Degree in international relations from the American University in Washington, DC. As an intelligence officer he performed duties in the Persian Gulf in the early 1950s and subsequently was assistant naval attache to the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War in the early 1960s. He served as Intelligence officer in VietNam in the late 1960s and subsequently was advanced to the rank of rear admiral and was appointed the Director of Naval Intelligence in l973. He was retired in l976 at the rank of vice admiral.
