WWII CNAC China National Aviation Corporation Airline Pilot Wings & Uniform
Exceedingly rare original WWII era uniform dated 1942 for a CNAC pilot. The uniform cuffs have the braids for a pilot, and several CNAC buttons (a few buttons are missing or replaced with Army Officer ones). The left shoulder has a bullion CBI patch, and it comes with pin back observer wings, Chinese made CNAC cloth wings, and a miniature Chinese silver CNAC wing. It is not identified to a Pilot. There are some small moth nips throughout. During WWII, This Chinese Airline was headquartered in India, and flew supplies from Assam, India, into Yunnan, southwestern China through the Hump Route over the Himalayas, after the Japanese blocked the Burma Road. Despite the large casualties inflicted by the Japanese and more significantly, the ever-changing weather over the Himalayas, the logistics flights operated daily, year round, from April 1942 until the end of the war. The CNAC was a smaller part of the overall re-supply operations which included the USAAFs India-China Division of Air Transport Command.
