Large 19th Century French Neoclassical Gilt Wood and Gesso Overmantel Mirror - A large French Neoclassical style overmantel mirror dating to the 19th century. The rectangular frame is constructed of carved wood and gesso with a water-gilded finish over a red bole ground. The frame is detailed with fluted and beaded moldings and features square blocks at the upper corners containing relief-carved floral rosettes. It is surmounted by an elaborate pierced cresting composed of a central ribbon bow, a laurel wreath, and trailing garlands of roses and mixed blossoms.
