A 19th Century Mahogany Campaign Writing Slope - A 19th-century campaign-style writing slope constructed of mahogany with brass hardware. The rectangular case features recessed brass corner protectors, a blank shield-shaped brass cartouche inset on the lid, and a brass keyhole escutcheon. The box opens on brass hinges to reveal a sloped writing surface lined with purple velvet featuring an embossed decorative border. The interior includes a pen tray and two side compartments, one of which contains a single square glass inkwell. The secondary wood appears to be pine or a similar light-colored wood. The construction is characteristic of the campaign style designed for portable use during the Victorian or Georgian era.
