Salter's Economical Warranted Brass Clockwork Roasting Jack with Winding Key - This antique mechanical roasting jack, also known as a bottle jack, is manufactured by Salter's and was used for rotating meat in front of an open hearth. The instrument features a cylindrical brass housing with a polished finish and an octagonal mounting plate at the top for installation. The body tapers into a long neck that terminates in a swiveling brass bracket designed to hold a meat hook. A circular brass medallion is riveted to the side of the main cylinder and serves as a pivoting cover for the winding aperture. When moved, the internal clockwork gears are visible through the opening. The jack is accompanied by a separate cast iron winding key with an oval loop grip.
