Miles, W. J. Modern Practical Farriery; A Complete Guide to all that Relates to the Horse. William Mackenzie, circa 1886. - This quarto-sized Victorian veterinary reference work was published by William Mackenzie in London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. The volume is authored by W. J. Miles, M.R.C.V.S.L., and includes a supplemental essay on the diseases and management of cattle, sheep, and pigs by J. I. Lupton, M.R.C.V.S. The book is bound in publisher half black morocco leather with textured paper boards and decorative gilt-tooling to the spine. The work contains numerous illustrations, featuring vibrant full-page chromolithograph plates of livestock and racehorses, including a plate of the horse Belton, and a series of detailed black-and-white anatomical and surgical plates engraved by Benjamin Herring from original drawings.
