A Royal Navy World War II Memorial Medal Group to Hubert Albert Burford - A collection of three British World War II campaign medals and a lapel badge awarded to Hubert Albert Burford of the Royal Navy. The group consists of the 1939-1945 Star, the Atlantic Star, and the 1939-1945 War Medal. The two campaign stars are struck in bronze and feature the royal cipher GRI VI surmounted by a crown, surrounded by circlets with their respective medal titles. The War Medal is composed of copper-nickel and depicts the crowned effigy of King George VI on the obverse, with a reverse design showing a lion standing over a defeated dragon and the dates 1939 and 1945. Also included is a silver-colored King's Badge for Loyal Service lapel badge featuring the GRI cipher under a crown. The medals are accompanied by the original Admiralty condolence slip, featuring the Royal Coat of Arms and the handwritten name of the recipient, Hubert Albert Burford. The slip indicates that the recipient died before the awards could be presented. The lot includes the original brown cardboard mailing box addressed to Mr. H. Burford at 229 Great Colmore St., Edgbaston, Birmingham 15, bearing a printed O.H.M.S. mark and an Official Paid crown postal stamp.
