Bidspirit auction | A Collection of Victorian Staffordshire
A Collection of Victorian Staffordshire Earthenware Figurines and Spill Vases - This assortment of mid-to-late 19th-century lead-glazed earthenware figurines and spill vases features traditional pastoral, romantic, and nationalistic subjects. The pieces are constructed using press-molded techniques typical of Victorian flat-back production. Decoration consists of vibrant underglaze cobalt blue alongside overglaze polychrome enamels in orange-red, pink, green, and yellow, with selective gilt accents. The group includes a large central spill vase modeled as a classically draped female figure holding a fluted cornucopia. Other subjects include a courting couple on a grassy mound, a musical pair in Scottish attire with a harp and lute, multiple Highland figures in traditional kilts with sheep, a man in a red jacket standing by a white horse, and a woman with a floral garland and sheep. No factory marks, model numbers, or decorator signatures are visible.
