Alberta Kinsey (1875 - 1952) American
Alberta Kinsey (1875 - 1952) Oil on board, signed lower right, measures , inches w/frame. A painter and illustrator, Alberta Kinsey was an art instructor at the University of Ohio in Lebanon. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was a member of the Cincinnati Women's Art Club. She then moved to New Orleans, where she worked with Ellsworth Woodward and lived in the French Quarter for more than thirty years. It is said that she inspired the development of the art colony there. She is also known for her association with Clementine Hunter, Louisiana's famous folk artist. According to legend, on one visit to Melrose Plantation, Kinsey left behind her paints and brushes, which Hunter used to paint her first picture of a bouquet of zinnias. Kinsey was a trained, sophisticated artist, but she often painted directly-stated, semi-primitive paintings of patios, courtyards and historic buildings, perhaps under the influence of modernism. Kiey taught at Lebanon University, Lebanon, Ohio, and the Delgado Museum of Art

Please contact the auction house before the auction with any condition questions. Questions about condition will not be answered after purchase. Condition reports are provided as a courtesy, and we are not responsible for any errors or omissions.
