Antique 1862 Red and Green Tulip Quilt has the date April The 24, 1862 hand quilted in the quilt. It measures 81 x 80". It is comprised of 16 appliqué Tulip blocks, 11.5" x 11.5", set on point, 4 by 4, with solid white alternating squares and setting triangles. There is an 8 inch appliqué border on all 4 sides with an undulating vine and Tulip motif. There is a consistent use of an over dyed green fabric. Solid Turkey red fabric. And a yellow fabric with a faint print. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. Thin cotton batting and off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with and applied over dyed green fabric binding. It is in good condition with some discoloration, toning, and 2 small areas of wear.
