Bidspirit auction | Carved Oak Corbel of an

Carved Oak Corbel of an Angel Playing Bagpipes - This hand-carved oak sculpture is fashioned as an architectural corbel, depicting a winged angel playing the bagpipes. The design is a reproduction of the celebrated carving located in the Thistle Chapel at St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh. The figure is rendered in a serene pose with closed eyes, wearing draped robes and a headband, with the bagpipe drones resting against the left shoulder and wing. The piece is constructed from solid oak, displaying a rich medium-brown colour and prominent grain patterns including medullary rays. The reverse is flat-planed for wall mounting and is fitted with a modern D-ring hanger and a small circular pre-drilled hole. A small white adhesive label is present on the bottom edge of the reverse, though the text is truncated and illegible.
