Orientalist School, Late 19th Century 'The Finding of Moses' (Signed), AF - This large-scale framed colour print, produced as a chromolithograph or oleograph on a canvas or stiffened fabric support, depicts the biblical scene of 'The Finding of Moses' in an Orientalist style. The composition features a central figure in white robes, representing Pharaoh's daughter, surrounded by attendants and a dark-skinned figure holding the infant Moses. The scene is set against a background of Egyptian-inspired architecture featuring visible hieroglyphic motifs and a peacock in the foreground. An illegible red inscription is present in the lower right corner. The artwork is housed in a substantial ornate gilded wood and gesso frame featuring egg-and-dart and beaded mouldings.
