The case is of rectangular form with a curved profile and rounded corners. The exterior features a plain polished finish, hand-engraved with the inscription C.E.L. from A.E.B.T. 1917. It is fitted with a side push-button release mechanism. The interior hallmarks include the maker mark W.H.S over LD within a quatrefoil punch, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter S for 1917.
