A Pair of UK Copper Coins Comprising a 1797 George III Cartwheel Penny and an 1812 Royal Exchange Token - This pair of copper coins consists of a 1797 George III penny and a 1812 commercial token. The first item is a George III cartwheel penny, struck at the Soho Mint in 1797. The obverse features a laureate bust of George III facing right with the incuse legend GEORGIUS III D G REX within a broad, raised rim. The reverse depicts a seated Britannia with a trident and shield, the legend BRITANNIA, and the date 1797. The second item is a copper penny token dated 1812. The obverse bears a laureate bust facing left with the inscription ONE PENNY TOKEN 1812. The reverse depicts the Royal Exchange building in London with the legends FOR PUBLIC ACCOMMODATION and ROYAL EXCHANGE. Both pieces are struck in copper and exhibit a dark brown to blackish patina.
