A Pair of Mid-20th Century Hand-Carved African Hardwood Relief Wall Plaques - A pair of rectangular wall plaques crafted from hand-carved hardwood, featuring figures in profile relief against recessed, dark-stained grounds. One plaque depicts a male figure in a patterned loincloth holding a spear. The second plaque depicts a figure carrying a large globular vessel on their head. Both carvings display stylized physiognomy, textured hair rendered with fine notches, and stippled patterns on garments. The background areas are finished with a dark stain to provide contrast with the natural wood tones of the figures. These pieces represent decorative woodwork produced in the mid-20th century, often associated with the East African export market.
