A Victorian Oak Stationery Cabinet by Chapman's London - An English oak stationery cabinet and writing compendium of rectangular form, late 19th or early 20th century. The cabinet is constructed from quarter-sawn oak showing medullary ray grain patterns, featuring a hinged lid and a drop-down front. The interior is highly organised for correspondence, containing a lower section of vertical stationery pigeonholes with decorative wavy-carved dividers. Above these are three small drawers, each fitted with a brass circular ring pull handle. The drop-down front opens to reveal a two-part writing slope lined in dark green leather with gold-tooled borders. The interior of the lid contains several leather pen loops. The brass lock plate is clearly stamped with the retailer mark CHAPMAN'S LONDON. The top of the lid features black lettering, partially obscured and defaced, which reads F... . S . S.
