A Late 20th Century? Bronzed Orthodox Wall Cross, 14” - A Russian Orthodox wall cross of three-bar form, cast in a bronzed copper alloy. The piece features a central relief of the Crucifixion in the traditional Byzantine-Russian iconographic style. The upper bar depicts the Lord Sabaoth and mourning angels above a titulus reading IНЦИ (INTSY - Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews). The main horizontal bar contains the abbreviations IС and ХС (IS and KhS - Jesus Christ), while the vertical stem is inscribed СНЪ БЖIЙ (SN BZHIY - Son of God). The lower slanted bar, or suppedaneum, bears the inscription НИ КА (NIKA - Victory). A stylized skull of Adam is depicted at the base, flanked by the letters Г А (GA - Golgotha Adam). The reverse has a textured, coarse finish and is fitted with a modern metal hanging bracket. Height: 35.5 cm Width: 17.8 cm.
