A non-traditional Haggadah in the form of an exceptionally long scroll. Israel, 1962 (Hebrew year: 5722) - extremely rare
A non-traditional Haggadah in the form of an exceptionally long scroll with wooden handles - unfolding to a length of 3.5 meters! Israel, 1962 (Hebrew year: 5722) - extensive references to contemporary events from the early 1960s, many new reading sections. Stencil printing with illustrations, without a location indication [Kvutzat HaSharon?]. Rare.
The Haggadah deals with the kibbutz's way of life, the social development in Israel, contemporary events, the tense security situation in Israel, and the Passover holiday from a new perspective, and more.
Among other things, there is a section referring to the water shortage in the country and the construction of the Jordan pipeline, as well as the Arab attempts to sabotage the process, and the Israeli response: "We too need water in the country in every corner. The Jordan River will gradually be diverted, flowing through black tunnels inside large pipes - its stream will no longer flow freely. Enemies intending on carrying out their mission hatch one plot after another, they should not venture across the border - pushing their luck will result in trouble. For Israel, dressed in uniform, guards this magnificent project...". There is also a song titled "Sovi Mamtera" about the influence of water in the Land of Israel. A section on people's pursuit of money, a "reading" section from a poem dealing with the virtue of patience, and more can also be found. Part of the "First Cup" section refers to contemporary events: "People seek new things over old, new countries lift their heads, space is breached by the noise of the rocket - first to arrive is Nikita's (Khrushchev) emissary...".
The "Ma Nishtana" section is divided into three "Omrim" (speakers) - Tzviah, Uri, and "everyone" - and refers to the tense period: "... in other years we were among the married and the singles, this year we are all confined...". There is a reading section for the second cup that deals with the achievements of the State of Israel: "... a house on pillars stood in a vision somewhere, turned into reality and materialized...". In the second part of the Haggadah under the title "Phase B", there are original long sections - "Kumu Rodefey Hamutar" (Arise, Pursuers of the Unnecessary) (akin to "Kumu To'ey Midbar" (Arise, Wanderers of the Desert), which appears in the kibbutz Haggadahs of the 1940s) - a long rhymed song calling to stop chasing after unnecessary things and to engage in building the land.
Following that, there are several songs dealing with the building of the Jewish family. Under the title "Kinat Hador Ha'Acharon" (Lament of the Last Generation), there is a section featuring a cross-stitch poem by the writers Yitzhak and Michaela Elinsky, dealing with the separation of a man from a woman. After that, under the title "Bimtei Ma'at" (In a Little While), there are lines about the building of Jewish families after being discharged from the army: "Eight souls joined the army, now we have done as nature does with all the couples on this land...", as well as songs about transitioning from singlehood to married life.
The next section is a historical quiz dealing with the arrival of the people of Israel to Eretz Israel, including an "Introduction to the Quiz": "Pay attention, friends, to this quiz dealing with historiography" hinting at the subjects being asked about - next to each question is a space for the handwritten answer. Under the title "The Fourth Cup, " there is a section dealing with the Jewish holidays of Sukkot, Hanukkah, and Shavuot.
The song 'Echad Mi Yodea' has been adapted to "Three Sports Workers", "Four Married Couples of 1962", "Five Charming Children". The song "Chad Gadya" tells stories of members of the Kvutzat HaSharon.
At the beginning and end of the Haggadah, the name of the place where it was written does not appear. Towards the end of the Haggadah, there is a section that begins with the words: "When I sat in a conversation with friends from the special Kvutzat HaSharon who were sitting somewhere in one of the communal apartments..." Based on this passage, it can be assumed that the Haggadah was written by members of the "Kvutzat HaSharon".
Extremely rare Haggadah, seemingly the only copy in the world! It does not appear in any bibliographic records about non-traditional Haggadot printed in Israel.
