William Tippenig [1816 - 1897] Born in Liverpool, a British missionary who began his journey to Palestine in his twenties, he focused on paintings of archeological sites. Tippinig was among the first to visit Masada in 1842 and brought paintings and sketches of the place, which were first published to the general public. Following his important work, he was chosen to head the British Archaeological Delegation. 22x15 cm, given in Passeparto 30x22 cm. Very good condition.

Painted etching depicting Old Jerusalem from the direction of Mount Zion by William Henry Bartlett, London, 1845.
Bartlett [1809-1854] English engraver artist began his travels in the Middle East in the 1830s, he visited Palestine twice. After his first visit to Jerusalem in the summer of 1842, Bartlett published his book "Walks about the City and Environs of Jerusalem". Bartlett, who stated that in his works he aspires to create a "realistic impression from real places". His engravings were very popular during his time and were copied by various artists immediately after his death. Size: 20x14 cm. Passeparto: 31x27 cm. Very fine condition.
