The only edition described by Inocêncio of this rare and sought-after work of Portuguese navigation. The National Library catalog available on the website only describes a 1779 edition which is also referred to in the catalog of the 'Important Private Library'. In our catalog of the first part of this Private Library, number 271 describes a copy of the 1755 edition, and we know of the existence of at least one more edition from 1787. According to our investigations, we can assure the existence of at least least four editions in the places, printers and dates indicated below: 1. Lisbon, in the Patriarchal Officina of Francisco Luis Ameno, 1755; 2. Lisbon, at the workshop of António Vicente da Silva, 1764 (present); 3. Lisbon, at João António da Silva's workshop, 1779; 4. Lisbon, in the Officina de Simão Tadeu Ferreira, 1787. This edition is presumably the second edition and not the first as is often indicated in some catalogues. The Treatise contains a treatise on the sphere, astronomy, movement of the Sun, methods of observing the stars and is illustrated with nine folding engravings opened with a chisel and two tables printed on double sheet, inserted in the pagination of the text. Rare and treasured.
