AN ISLAMIC SILVER TALISMANIC RING WITH CALLIGRAPHIC YELLOW AGATE INTAGLIO. - A large dress ring featuring a circular yellow agate cabochon set within a silver mount. The translucent stone is decorated with hand-carved intaglio work. The central circular field contains fluid calligraphic characters in Arabic or Persian script, surrounded by a partitioned border featuring stylized foliate and floral motifs. The stone is secured in a plain bezel setting. The shoulders of the ring are split into an open-work Y-shape, tapering into a solid D-section band. The metal shows a dark grey surface patina consistent with oxidation.
