A LARGE RAJASTHANI RAJPUT ROYAL PROCESSION MINIATURE PAINTING, 19TH CENTURY. - An Indian miniature painting, executed in gouache with gold heightening on paper, depicting a royal procession in the Rajput style, possibly from the Mewar or Marwar region of Rajasthan. The scene features a central royal figure, likely a Maharaja, seated in a golden howdah atop a richly caparisoned elephant. He is attended by courtiers holding flywhisks (chauris) and a royal parasol (chhatri). The lead elephant is surrounded by a large entourage including musicians, soldiers bearing spears, and a solo dancer performing in the foreground. The background portrays an expansive multi-storied palace complex where numerous female figures are seen watching the event from windows and balconies (zenana). The scene is set at night under a dark indigo sky with a crescent moon and is framed by a traditional red border. Approximately 81 x 70cm
