Bidspirit auction | A CHINESE CARVED TURQUOISE RECUMBENT

A CHINESE CARVED TURQUOISE RECUMBENT MYTHICAL BEAST. - This archaistic carving is fashioned from a solid block of turquoise, depicting a recumbent mythical creature, likely a bixie or pixiu. The beast is rendered with a single horn, bulging eyes, and an open mouth revealing bared teeth. Its feline-like body features stylised scrolls at the haunches and well-defined paws tucked beneath the torso. The turquoise material displays a vibrant range of sky-blue to sea-green hues, heavily permeated with a dark brown and black matrix characteristic of the stone.  L: Approximately 5.5cm
