AN ISLAMIC SILVER AND YELLOW AGATE CALLIGRAPHIC SIGNET RING. - A silver signet-style ring set with a central oval translucent yellow agate intaglio. The stone is finely engraved with cursive Arabic calligraphy, divided into two horizontal registers by a central line. The script is enclosed within a lobed and cusped cartouche frame. The engravings are filled with a black substance to enhance legibility. The intaglio is held in a rub-over collet setting. The reverse of the closed-back mount features an incised decoration consisting of an X-shape within a rectangular frame. Three small circular indentations are visible on the lower edge of the reverse of the mount. The ring has a split-shoulder shank that tapers into a single band. The outer edge of the band is decorated with a continuous engraved chevron or wheat-ear pattern.
