A Vintage Mother-of-Pearl Shell and Carved Hardwood Lidded Specimen Box - A vintage lidded specimen or trinket box featuring a single polished iridescent mother-of-pearl shell valve which functions as a hinged lid. The shell is attached to a base of carved dark hardwood by an integrated hinge. The interior of the wooden base contains a recessed rectangular compartment holding an assortment of loose pheasant plumage. The hardwood base is finished with a smooth, rounded profile and displays a visible grain. The shell lid exhibits natural concentric growth rings on the exterior and a polished nacreous interior. No maker's marks or stamps are visible on the object. Shell diameter: 11.5 cm.
