German Westerwald Salt-glazed Stoneware Cruet Jug with Stopper - A German salt-glazed stoneware cruet or small jug of conical, horn-shaped form featuring a single loop handle. The body is finished with a mottled brown salt-glazed ground and decorated with incised and relief-moulded stylised scroll or wave motifs filled with deep cobalt blue slip. The neck and handle are further accented with cobalt blue glaze. The piece includes its original stopper, consisting of a rounded ceramic cap with a dark cobalt blue metallic glaze and a cork base. The underside of the base bears the impressed mark Handarbeit. and the numeral 1. Total length including stopper: approximately 22.5 cm.
