Bidspirit auction | An Antique Brass Porthole Window
An Antique Brass Porthole Window and Pair of Heavy-duty Actuators - A circular brass porthole window and a pair of associated heavy-duty actuators, likely of early-to-mid 20th century British maritime origin. The porthole is of solid brass construction, featuring a hinged glass light within a substantial mounting frame, secured by a single swing bolt with a circular threaded nut. The frame includes six pre-drilled holes for installation. Accompanying the window are two separate brass worm-gear actuators, designed for mechanical operation of heavy hatches or window banks. These actuators comprise long, square-threaded acme rods with integrated bronze and brass mounting brackets, pulleys, and geared mechanisms. The metal surfaces exhibit a naturally weathered patina with heavy oxidation and verdigris, characteristic of long-term exposure in a marine environment. The actuators include iron components such as springs and fasteners which show significant surface corrosion. Porthole Outer Diameter: 30.5 cm Actuator Length: 61 to 66 cm.
