A Late Victorian Liddicoat & Codd Stoneware Tavern Flagon - A two-tone salt-glazed stoneware tavern or spirits flagon from the late Victorian period, originating from Falmouth, Cornwall. The vessel features a classic cylindrical form with a tapered shoulder, short neck, and a heavy, ringed rim. It is fitted with a single vertical ribbed strap handle attached from the neck to the shoulder. The upper portion, including the neck and handle, is finished in a dark honey-brown ferruginous slip, contrasting with the buff-coloured natural stoneware body below. The shoulder is decorated with black transfer-printed lettering in capitalised serif type which reads: LIDDICOAT & CODD, WINE, SPIRIT, & ALE MERCHANTS, FALMOUTH. The underside of the base is unglazed, displaying a rough, dark brown earthy texture and lacks any maker's marks or capacity stamps.
