Bidspirit auction | A Pair of Cast Metal

A Pair of Cast Metal and Glass Marine Portholes - A pair of heavy cast metal marine portholes, each featuring a circular hinged design. The frames are constructed from a robust non-ferrous alloy, likely brass or bronze, evidenced by the green verdigris and oxidation visible beneath the weathered surface layers. Each unit consists of a fixed outer mounting flange with six pre-drilled holes for bulkhead installation. The inner hinged frame houses a thick, circular glass pane, secured by a single swing-bolt fastener with a knurled thumb nut. The construction is utilitarian and maritime in nature, typical of mid-20th-century ship fittings. There are no maker's marks, manufacturer names, or serial numbers visible on the frames or glass of either unit. The interior of the frames shows the remnants of aged rubber or fibre gaskets used to maintain a watertight seal.
