Bidspirit auction | A Late Victorian Scalloped Flow
A Late Victorian Scalloped Flow Blue Earthenware Bowl - A round, deep earthenware bowl from the Late Victorian period, featuring a heavily scalloped or lobed rim. The piece is decorated in the flow blue technique, where cobalt blue pigment has intentionally bled into the white glaze during firing to create a blurred, atmospheric effect. The interior decoration comprises a central circular medallion containing a dense floral or foliate motif, surrounded by concentric bands and broad sprays of flowers and leaves extending towards the rim. The exterior is similarly decorated with floral clusters and a stylized geometric border above the foot rim. The bowl sits on a raised, unglazed foot rim. There are no legible maker's marks or backstamps on the underside, though minor kiln grit inclusions and staining are present. Diameter: 17.8 cm Height: 7.6 cm.
