A Vintage 18 Carat Gold and Platinum Diamond Solitaire Ring - A vintage diamond solitaire ring featuring a single round-cut diamond, set within a white metal illusion-style crown gallery designed to enhance the visual size of the stone. The ring is constructed with an 18 carat yellow gold band and tapered, decorative shoulders that transition into the white metal setting. The interior of the shank bears two distinct sets of marks that appear to conflict. The first is a stamped mark reading 18CT PLAT, conventionally indicating an 18 carat gold band with a platinum setting. The second is a series of struck British hallmarks within rectangular shields: the first depicts a crown symbol; the second contains the numbers 375; the third is an anchor symbol for the Birmingham Assay Office; and the fourth is a lowercase letter v in a shaped shield. The 375 mark is the official British legal standard for 9 carat gold. The diamond is held by four corner claws in a box-style setting.
