Bidspirit auction | A Collection of Late Victorian
A Collection of Late Victorian Sterling Silver Manicure and Vanity Tools - A collection of sterling silver vanity and grooming tools from the Late Victorian period, featuring weighted silver handles and steel functional components. The group includes a shoe horn, a double-ended cuticle pusher with a spade and pointed end, and two nail files. The handles are decorated in varied styles, including a scrolling Kings pattern and more streamlined tapered forms. Hallmarks are present across the items, notably a set of three shield-shaped punches on one file comprising a lion passant for sterling silver, an anchor for the Birmingham assay office, and a lowercase 'u' date letter. A maker's mark consisting of the characters 'L D' in a rectangular punch is visible on the shoe horn handle. The steel components are fixed to the handles with visible ferrules, with the shoe horn blade showing a flared spade form.
