Bidspirit auction | A Mid-Victorian Rosewood Serpentine Work

A Mid-Victorian Rosewood Serpentine Work Box - A rosewood jewelry or work box from the mid-Victorian period, featuring a distinctive serpentine form. The lid is decorated with a radiating sunburst-style carved motif emanating from a central rectangular mother-of-pearl cartouche. The front of the box is fitted with a circular white escutcheon, likely bone or ivory, and the entire piece is raised on four small turned bun feet. The interior is lined with a padded green velvet fabric, showing visible signs of age and use. The lid is secured by two brass hinges, each fixed with two slotted screws. The box lacks a visible maker's mark or signature; however, the construction and decorative elements are characteristic of mid-19th century British cabinet making.
