A FINE TIBETAN SILVER-PLATED KAPALA, 19TH CEN.
An antique Tibetan lidded silver-plated hand-hammered copper Kapala skull bowl with a stand. The triangular stand is richly ornamented and decorated with relief skulls at the corners. The rim of the bowl is upholstered with metal, under the rim is adornment with a row of miniature skulls. The lid is adorned with intricate relief patterns, including images of a dragon. Kapalas are used for higher or secret tantric rituals, which are generally not available to the public. Many tantric deities are depicted holding kapala, mostly in the left hand.
