A ROMAN BRONZE LAMP WITH GRAPE-LEAF HANDLE, CA. 1ST-2ND CENTURY AD

A bronze oil lamp from the Roman world dated to the first or second century AD. The piece is set atop a circular base with a slender, tapering stem. The spout is decorated with two identical crescent shapes. The handle is of a simple ring shape but is set at the base of a highly decorative sculpted grape-leaf with many pointed ends and incised and stamped veins and circles across its surface.

Ancient Roman - CA. 1st - 2nd Century AD

H: 8 in., (20.3 cm.); L: 5 1/2 in., (14 cm.)

Condition: Good overall with a nicely patinated surface. There appears to be a chip to the central tip of the leaf. There are two very small holes on the underside of the lamp, one at the spout and one below the handle. Base slightly warped at edges.
