A MARBLE OR STONE BACTRIAN VESSEL, CA. 1ST MILLENIUM BC

An ancient vessel originating possibly from the region of Bactria. It has a large bulbous body that rounds up to a slightly narrower top with a flat, smooth rim. Bactria, during the 1st Millenium, was interchanged and influenced between various civilizations including, but not limited to, the Persians, the Macedonians, and the Selucids. This item would have been created during a time when one or perhaps multiple of these empires influenced the region. This vessel was made with stone material, likely marble, and likely used as a means of housing or storing.

Ancient Bactria - CA. 1st Millenium

H: 3 3/4 in., (9.5 cm.); D: 5 1/2 in., (14 cm.)
