Chinese woodblock print depicting the painter Zhao Boju(1120-1182) of the Southern Song Dynasty(1127-1279), China, Qing Dynasty(1644-1911), 18th c., Woodcut on paper framed in passepartout behind glass, depicting the noble occupation of the scholar: the Chinese sage and painter Zhao Boju(also: Zhao Qianli) walks in the mountains between gentle hills, rugged rocks and an old gnarled tree with triangular leaves typical for the historical printing technique, a servant carries the zither(qin) for him for musical pleasure in the lonely heights of the mountains, the woodcut technique approaches the ductus of contemporaneous landscape painting, inscription in normal script(kaishu): Zhao Qianli, slight traces of folding, 19,5x14,5cm(picture area), 51x44cm(with frame)
