A Collection of UK Silver and Silver-Alloy Coins This collection of British silver and silver-alloy coinage comprises several denominations including a florin, shillings, sixpences, and threepences. The group spans the reigns of Queen Victoria, King George V, and King George VI, with dates including 1872, 1921, 1923, 1926, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1937, and 1940. The Victorian issue is struck in .925 sterling silver, while the pieces dated from 1921 to 1940 are composed of .500 silver alloy. Obverse designs feature the Young Head portrait of Victoria and the bare-headed profiles of George V and George VI. Reverse designs are varied, featuring cruciform shields on the florin, a lion standing atop a crown on the shillings, and botanical or heraldic motifs on the smaller denominations. The larger coins in the group have milled edges.
