A Collection of UK Coinage and Commemorative Medals, George VI to Elizabeth II. A collection of United Kingdom coinage and commemorative medals spanning the reigns of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. The assembly includes large cupro-nickel commemorative crowns, notably the 1977 Silver Jubilee issue with an equestrian obverse and the 1981 Royal Wedding crown featuring conjoined portraits of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer. Pre-decimal currency is represented by cupro-nickel half-crowns dated 1955 and 1956, sixpences with floral reverse designs, and brass portcullis threepences. Bronze denominations include pennies dated 1962 and 1967, and halfpennies depicting the ship Golden Hind. Notable commemorative items include a Birmingham Mint The Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal (1952-2002) in its original card folder and a 1983 one pound coin presented in a blue First Day of Issue card folder dated 21st April 1983. One 1967 penny appears to have been gold-plated for decorative purposes. Common inscriptions include ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D. and GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX.
