A set of four volumes titled Enwogion y Ffydd: neu, Hanes Crefydd y Genedl Gymreig, o'r Diwygiad Protestanaidd hyd yr Amser Presennol (The Famous of the Faith: or, History of the Religion of the Welsh Nation, from the Protestant Reformation to the Present Time). This Welsh-language biographical history was edited by the Reverend John Peter and Gweirydd ap Rhys, with contributions from a wide circle of nineteenth-century Welsh scholars and ministers including William Rees (Hiraethog), Henry Richard, and Owen Thomas. The work provides a comprehensive account of the religious history of Wales from the Protestant Reformation through to the late Victorian era, told through the lives of its principal theologians and reformers. The volumes were published in London by William Mackenzie of 69 Ludgate Hill, with additional imprints for Liverpool, Manchester, Swansea, and Chester. Each volume is quarto-sized and bound in the publisher's original deep brown textured cloth with elaborate gilt-stamped decorative schemes. The front boards feature a central oval portrait of a clergyman set within a border of heraldic shields representing various Welsh dioceses and families. The spines are heavily ornamented with gilt, including the Prince of Wales feathers, multiple coats of arms, and the publisher's name at the foot. The title pages are printed in a combination of red and black ink.
