Griffiths, J. Tro yn y Dwyrain: Yr Ail Lyfr and Y Trydydd Llyfr. Hughes a'i Fab, c.1915. Two Volumes. Two volumes of Welsh-language travelogues regarding the Holy Land, titled Tro yn y Dwyrain (A Tour in the East), written by the Reverend J. Griffiths of Llanfairfechan and published in Wrexham by Hughes a'i Fab. The lot comprises the second book (Yr Ail Lyfr), subtitled Trwy Wlad y Deg Llwyth (Through the Land of the Ten Tribes), and the third book (Y Trydydd Llyfr), subtitled O Jericho i Gymru (From Jericho to Wales). Both volumes are octavo-sized and bound in original pictorial cloth-covered boards—one in red and one in green—featuring a black-printed decorative border of grapevines surrounding a central map of Canaan and an illustrative desert scene with a figure and camel. The works include several black and white photographic plates, including views of the Mount of Olives and Mary's Well in Nazareth. The green volume contains a manuscript prize inscription in blue ink on the front free endpaper: Gwobr i Annie Walters am Gasglu at Genadaeth Gartrefol y Methodistiaid Calfinaidd yn Brynsion Bryn 1915 (Prize to Annie Walters for collecting for the Home Mission of the Calvinistic Methodists in Brynsion Bryn 1915). The red volume contains further pencil and ink inscriptions for Annie Walters of Port Talbot and bears a bookseller label for Morgan & Higgs, 18 Heathfield St, Swansea. Each spine features the volume subtitle and an original price of 1/- Nett.
