A Collection of Welsh-Language Literary and Historical Volumes, Hughes and Son, 1867-1936. A collection of Welsh-language publications largely issued by the Wrexham firm Hughes and Son (later Hughes a'i Fab) between 1867 and 1936. This group represents significant cultural and literary history, including works by prominent authors such as the novelist Daniel Owen, represented by Straeon y Pentan and a 1936 edition of Troeon Bywyd edited by T. Gwynn Jones. The earliest volume in the collection is an: 1867 third edition of Rhys Prichard's classic poetic work, Canwyll y Cymry (The Welshman's Candle), edited by Rice Rees and published in conjunction with Simpkin Marshall and Co. of London. Historical and geographical study Y Ffordd yng Nghymru (1933) by R.T. Jenkins, a domestic advice manual titled Llyfr Pawb ar Bob-Peth, and an elementary school primer, Llyfr Darllen Cyntaf, by John Lloyd. The collection is completed by Hynodion Hen Bregethwyr Cymru, a volume of religious anecdotes. The books are octavo in size and bound in a variety of publisher's cloth and illustrated paper-covered boards. Several volumes retain original printed retail prices on the covers or spines.
