Crown Devon Gaiety Grill Novelty Earthenware Plate A circular earthenware luncheon plate manufactured by S. Fielding and Co. Ltd under the Crown Devon trade name, featuring the mid-century Gaiety Grill novelty pattern. The central decoration is transfer-printed with overglaze polychrome enamels, depicting a humorous scene of anthropomorphic vegetables and fruit at a barbecue. The characters include a purple aubergine chef at a grill, a reclining tomato drinking from a bottle, a carrot-like figure holding a beer tankard, a cabbage, a runner bean, and a strawberry, all set against a mottled cream vellum glaze. The underside bears a black printed factory mark with the pattern name Gaiety Grill, a crown symbol, Crown Devon, Fieldings, and Made in England, alongside an impressed model number 431.
