Large Chinese Suzhou Silk Embroidery River Landscape Scene This is a large Chinese silk embroidery depicting a traditional river landscape in the Jiangnan water town style, characteristic of regions such as Suzhou. The work is executed on a pale silk ground with varied needlework techniques to create texture and depth. The composition features white-walled dwellings with dark-tiled roofs, a classic stone arch bridge, and slender deciduous trees with green budding leaves. Fishing boats are moored in the foreground, including one carrying several cormorants and another with ducks. The background illustrates a mountainous terrain rendered in muted grey and blue tones. The embroidery is presented in a multi-layered mount with a blue-green inner border, a textured secondary mat, and a thin gilt fillet, housed within a dark-stained moulded wooden frame. The back is finished with a wooden panel secured by small nails. A red square seal mark is located in the lower-left corner.
