Bidspirit auction | A Mid-20th Century Gilt Gesso

A Mid-20th Century Gilt Gesso Rectangular Wall Mirror by Boots Pure Drug Co. Ltd. A rectangular wall mirror featuring a bevelled glass plate housed within a gilt gesso-on-wood frame. The frame is designed in a Baroque revival style, decorated with a continuous border of scrolling acanthus leaves and accented with decorative scroll caps at each corner. The gilded surface is applied over a dark reddish-brown base layer, which remains visible in the recessed areas of the moulding. The reverse of the mirror is enclosed with a hardboard backing secured by small nails and retains an original paper retail label from the Boots Picture Framing Department, printed with Boots Pure Drug Co. Ltd. The mirror is fitted with a rusted metal hanging chain. Width: 27.5 inches (approximately 70 cm) Height: 17.5 inches (approximately 44.5 cm).
