AN 18TH CENTURY FIGURED WALNUT, MARQUETRY INLAID AND CHEQUERBAND STRUNG EIGHT DAY LONGCASE CLOCK the 13.5" arched brass dial with silvered Roman chapter ring and spandrels enclosing an engraved centre beneath revolving moon phases with signed silvered name plaque fronting an eight day movement with anchor escapement and bell strike. The imposing case with shaped fretted caddy top hood fitted side figural surmounts above moulded hood pilasters and side sound frets above a shaped and carved long trunk door with ormolu mounted pendulum aperture and bombe' shaped base on carved paw feet. (273cm high excluding centre finial)
Notes from vendor: Dutch spelling of Leedes demonstrates the regular trade between the two countries throughout the C18. How Crofts made for the Dutch market is not known.
