CLEMENT XIII: (1693-1769) Pope of the Roman Catholic Church and Ruler of the Papal States 1758-69. One of the few early Popes who favoured dialogue with Old Catholic Protestants. Rare L.S., `Carlo Cardinale Rezzonico´, one page, folio, Rome, 26th November 1740, to the Queen `Reale Maesta´, in Italian. The future Pope, states in part `Nel ricevere Vostra Maesta, l´annunzio, che riverentemente le porgo di ogni piu abbondante felicita in congiuntura delle prossime Solennita Natalizie, trovera altrettanto animata la mia divozione a sperare l´onore de suoi Reali Comandamenti..´ (''In receiving your Majesty's announcement, that reverently I offer you the more abundant happiness in conjuncture of the upcoming Christmas solemnities, you will find likewise lively my devotion to hope for the honour of Your Royal Commandments…´ Paper with watermark.
