METCHNIKOFF ÉLIE: (1845-1916) Also known as Ilya Mechnikov. Russian Zoologist. Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1908. Metchnikoff is best known for his pioneering works in immunology, widely regarded as the ''father of natural immunity''. A good A.L.S., `Elie Metchnikoff´, one page, 8vo, Paris, 17th July 1906, on the Institut Pasteur printed stationery, to Monsieur Mariani, in French. Metchnikoff states `I send to you in my own name and on behalf of my wife our best thanks for sending us the statuette which is a real masterpiece. Monsieur Roux and the other friends who have seen it find all of them very beautiful..´ With blank integral leaf. Very small tear to the bottom left edge and a second one to the blank leaf. VG
