BERNOUILLI DANIEL: (1700-1782) Swiss Mathematician and Physicist. Best remembered for his pioneering work in probability and statistics. His name is commemorated in the Bernouilli´s principle related to the conservation of energy. Rare A.L.S., Daniel Bernouilli, one page, 4to, Bale, 1st June 1740, to Fabrice Mallet, Geneva, in French. Bernouilli sends his condolences to his correspondent and at the same time his congratulations for the inheritance he will be receiving, stating `..you must be very sensible, both to the loss you have recently experienced of a so good uncle and to the acquisition of so considerable goods. Because you are a philosopher, I hope that after the first regrets you will only keep for your uncle´s memory the feelings of recognition and veneration and that you will nevertheless enjoy quietly and generously the goods he leaves you..´ With address leaf in his hand.
